Listing and review rules

Plain-language rules for using OnlyCars. Buyers and sellers deal directly; we run the marketplace.

The short version

List real cars honestly, keep payment talk honest and in person, and write reviews about your own experience. We remove what breaks these rules, not what we disagree with.

What can be listed

  • Passenger cars, trucks, SUVs and vans, new or used, that you own or are authorized to sell.
  • Clean or rebuilt titles, stated in the listing. Salvage and flood titles belong on OnlySalvage.
  • One live listing per car. Posting the same car twice at the same time counts as a duplicate.

Renewing a listing

  • Renewing moves a listing back to the top of search. It's free.
  • You can renew once every 7 days, up to 4 times per listing. Paused listings can't be renewed until you resume them.
  • After 4 renewals, to reach the top again you have to delete the listing and post the car again. The new listing starts with no views, saves or chats.
  • The date a car was first listed always shows to buyers, even after a renewal.

Listings must be accurate

  • Your own photos of the actual car. No stock photos, renders or photos of a different car.
  • Correct mileage, trim, title status and known problems, including accidents and open recalls you know about.
  • The full asking price. No "call for price", no $1 placeholders, no hidden fees. Dealers state doc fees and required add-ons.
  • Mark the car sold within 48 hours of selling it.

Not allowed in listings or messages

  • Asking for a deposit, wire, gift card, crypto or any payment before the buyer has seen the car.
  • Moving the conversation off OnlyCars to avoid our safety tools, or sending links to outside payment or "escrow" sites.
  • Keyword stuffing, misleading titles, or listing a car you don't have.
  • Harassment, threats, discrimination or spam.

Who can write a review

People who messaged, met or bought from a seller on OnlyCars can review that seller. Each person can leave one review per seller, and it shows what happened: bought the car, test drove it, or only messaged.

What a review must be

  • About your own experience with this seller and this car.
  • Honest. Say what happened; leave out guesses about motives.
  • Free of personal information: no phone numbers, addresses, plates or last names.
  • Free of insults, threats, slurs and discrimination.
  • Not paid for. Sellers can't offer discounts, refunds or gifts for a review, or for changing or deleting one. Don't review yourself, a friend's business or a competitor.

Changing or deleting a review

You can edit or delete your review any time from the seller's profile. Edited reviews show the date of the last change, and the seller is emailed the new version.

Replies and reports

Sellers can reply publicly to any review, once. Keep replies calm and about the facts. If a review breaks these rules, the seller can report it. The review stays up while we check, usually within 2 business days, and both sides are told what we decided.

What we remove, and what we don't

We remove reviews from people who never dealt with the seller, reviews about a different seller or car, reviews with personal information, abusive language or offers of payment, and claims that are clearly false from what we can see in OnlyCars messages.

We don't remove a review because it's negative, because the seller remembers things differently, or over details we can't check. A reply is the right tool for that.

When rules are broken

Depending on what happened we may warn you, pause or remove a listing, remove a review, or block an account. You can appeal within 30 days by replying to the email that told you. A different person on our team looks at appeals.
